If it’s your birthday today, HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY TO YOU! It’s extra special because you are a rare gem that only has a real birthday every 4 years! (That’s not to say you don’t live it up and celebrate each year!) Be sure to check out (via Google) some of the deals restaurants and places are giving to you, simply because you were born on February 29th!
I’m sure you know this already, but if not – consider yourself educated, you get an extra day to live this year!
Instead of 365, a leap year means you get 366!
MAKE IT COUNT!
Make today great, if for no other reason than the fact that it’s the one extra day you get for the next four years! Incredible! People are always saying how they wish they had more time – well thanks to the solar year and the Earth taking a bit more than 365 days exactly to orbit the sun – you got it!
What will you do today to make it fabulous, to make someone smile, to bring joy into your own life?!
I’m not sure what my day will be filled with but rest assured I’ll be celebrating the amazing fact that I get to live it! I get to hug the Mr., I get to cuddle and care for Lil’ Miss, talk with my family and love on my friends. I know for a fact, I’ll also be enjoying a toasty Caribou mocha of some sort thanks to their celebration BOGO deal today.
Yesterday I had an amazing moment of being reminded of what fills me with happiness. I was able to buy a Starbucks gift card for someone I don’t know at all. I see him every week when I make my Target run. He plays an uber-important role and yet is probably rarely noticed by many. He insures that the store looks presentable, customers have what they need and is often the first company representative many see during their shopping trip. Can you guess who he is?
This man is the one in charge of collecting the carts and returning them to the front of the store.
Today, I caught his eye as I was loading the bags in the trunk and my mind immediately started scanning ideas to find something nice I could provide for him as a thank you for what he does. Have you ever thought about the people in this role as your favorite store? He was bundled up head to toe with only his rosy cheeks and nose popping out amidst his bearded face. But it’s not just that it was cold today, really think about ALL the types of weather we spend time complaining about throughout the year – he’s out in it. So today, after unloading my own cart I asked if I could give it to him as he was loading them up. With a big smile he said, “Sure.” And with that, I immediately turned around and ran back into the store to buy him a Starbucks gift card. I wanted him to feel special today, to get a toasty treat on me to warm his hands and have a break from the mundane task he is such a master of by now.
As I handed it to him, he was unsure what it was but I simply told him I appreciated him and wanted him to enjoy a warm drink on his next break. My only regret is that as we were separated by a mile-long line of carts, I didn’t get his name. But I tell you what, the look of surprise and genuine thankfulness was so priceless. I didn’t do it for recognition but to make HIM feel noble, loved and cared about.
How often do we walk by people that we 1. rarely notice and 2. say we would never want their jobs. Yet he’s there everyday working hard at the same task over and over so that your shopping experience can start off good. Next time you’re out – be conscious of these positions and take notice of these hard workers. It might not be a gift card or purchase of anything, but a smile, a greeting, a simple gesture to make someone else feel special!
They are exquisite human beings just like you!
They have a story, passions, dreams!
(Remember it’s a bonus day so make it count!)
